What kind of help do you need?
Need Urgent Help or Support?
If you are distressed or experiencing despair, try to speak to somebody now.
- Is there a family member or a friend you could call?
- Is there a neighbour or colleague who can help?
If you or anyone else is in immediate danger or harm, then please call the Police or Ambulance Service on 999.
Do you need medical or mental health help now?
If so, then it is crucial that you contact the right person - most likely your GP. They will help you to get specialist help. If your GP surgery is closed, their answerphone will direct you to the right place.
Call NHS 111 if you need medical help or advice that is not life-threatening.
Get 24 hour support
If no-one is available when you need help, or you'd like to speak to an impartial person in confidence, you can contact the Samaritans on 116123 for round-the-clock support. You can also contact them by email or by post.
University Counselling & Mental Health Services
You can also access Counselling & Mental Health services by going to http://unihub.mdx.ac.uk/your-support-services/counselling-and-mental-health. There, you will find more information about the services, plus the link to an online referral form for you to complete.
Once we receive your form you'll be added to our waiting list to meet with one of our counsellors when a suitable appointment becomes available - please give as much availability as you can to enable us to send out a convenient appointment to you. We expect to send out a first appointment within 2 weeks of receiving your form.
In the meantime, while you wait for your first appointment, (or as a one-off appointment) you might find it helpful to attend one of our (bookable) same day mini sessions, one at 12pm and the other at 12.30pm each day. These sessions need to be booked so please go to this link: http://unihub.mdx.ac.uk/your-support-services/counselling-and-mental-health.
Each day's appointments become live on the day so it might be best to get online early in the morning.
